Shipping your flowers
If you are interested in preserving flowers with JoCo Candles, for example to create a set of pressed flower candles or dried flower bottle candle holders from wedding or funeral flowers, here are the shipping instructions to post your flowers.
When posting your flowers, keep the stems roughly 15-20cm in length if possible. If you have ordered the pressed flower container candles, the flower heads should be no more than 6 cm in height and 5-6cm in width to ensure that they will fit in the largest size (50cl) candle. Generally speaking, smaller flower heads are easier to work with for both the container candles and the bottle candle holders. Please note, for larger flowers such as roses, peonies or dahlias, the individual petals will be dried/pressed rather than the whole flower as they are too large for the products.
How many flowers to send:
To give you an idea of quantities, the pressed flower container candles will usually have 1-3 flowers in. E.g. if you are ordering five candles then send at least 15-20 flowers to ensure there are enough to work with as some will dry better than others.
If you have ordered the dried flower bottle candle holders, please send a variety of approximately 10-15 stems per bottle (so 30 - 45 if you’ve ordered the set of three bottles).
A mixture of flowers and foliage is best - some flowers dry better than others so a good selection is necessary. When choosing your flowers to send, make sure to choose the ones in the best condition for the best results.
If you have dried your flowers yourself and they’re ready to send, all you need to do is send them wrapped in bubble wrap or similar and place them in a hard cardboard box so they can’t get squashed in shipping. Just make sure there is enough padding so they can’t move around too much in the box to prevent damage.
Shipping instructions for sending fresh flowers
How to send your flowers:
If you are based locally (near Banbury, OX17), you are more than welcome to deliver your bouquet/flowers in person, otherwise it’s perfectly safe to post them using the instructions below.
If you’re flowers are in a bouquet or arrangement, take it apart and separate the stems
Remove flowers from any oasis foam as otherwise this will leak in shipping and damage the flower heads
Use a Tupperware box or an old plastic container e.g. a chocolate or ice cream tub (please use one that you’re happy to part with as it will not be returned with your order)
On the bottom of the box place some dry kitchen roll
Wrap some damp kitchen roll, followed by some cling film around the bottom of the flower stalks ( be sure not to overfill the container as this may squash and bruise the flowers, but place enough in there that the flowers can’t move around too much in the box)
Cover the flowers with another layer of dry kitchen roll and seal the container
If you have dried flowers as part of your bouquet (e.g. pampas grass, bunny tails etc.) then these stems don’t need to be wrapped in damp kitchen towel as they are already dry and won’t wilt.
Place the container(s) in a shipping box or bag and include your name and order number within the package
It’s time to post your flowers! The shipping address will be emailed to you when you place your order. As your flowers are sentimental, please send your flowers using a next day delivery service (ideally Royal Mail Tracked 24) so they arrive quickly and whilst they are still fresh. Please do not send the flowers using Royal Mail Signed For delivery as there may not be anyone in and they won’t be delivered to a Safe Place because the package requires a signature, which may delay the delivery and impact the condition of the flowers.
We’ll let you know once your flowers have arrived safely and are drying. The drying process can take up to four weeks so it will take a bit of time for you to receive your final product(s), but it will be worth the wait!
Other things to know:
Flowers may start to wilt/die a few days after your wedding/event so please do send them as soon as possible. You can always pass this task onto a willing family member or friend if it’s easier! If your flowers are sent once they’ve starting wilting, unfortunately we may not be able to progress with the order as they won’t dry as well. If you’re unsure about the condition of your flowers, just get in touch with pictures.
If the flowers you’re planning to send are from a bridal bouquet, it’s recommended that you keep them in a vase of water on your wedding day so they don’t get dehydrated and start wilting, this will keep them in good condition. As fun as it is, unfortunately a bouquet toss is also not advised as this usually damages a lot of the flowers!
Please note, any spare flowers/foliage leftover after creating your order will not be returned to you due to the space in the shipping box. If you’d like any of the spare dried flowers returned to you, please request this and they can be sent back in a separate box for an additional postage fee. Leftover flowers are only kept for two weeks after an order has been shipped so they cannot be returned after this.
Before placing an order/sending your flowers, please check through this useful list of the flowers that dry/press the best. This is not an exhaustive list so please also send through some pictures/a description of your flowers too when you enquire about placing an order.
